William Roche

A native Rhode Islander, Bill has spent his career as an artist and designer since the 1980s. He graduated from UMass Dartmouth with a BFA in Visual Design, and worked in the magazine business as a professional photographer, graphic designer, and award-winning art director for several national publications.

His focus on oil painting began 14 years ago, as a passion for plein air in the warmer months, then moving to studio painting and still life in the winters. He now paints with a group of four fellow artists for inspiration, sharpening his craft with a daily painting. He works solely in oil using only primary colors.

As he paints, Bill’s goal is to both edit and expand upon the world he sees, giving each painting it’s own unique perspective and energy. Often, the resulting paintings border on the abstract, only loosely connected to the subject that originally attracted him. He’s currently working on a series of abstract landscapes.
